In a cut stone box are stored jewels. ?The box is buried in the basement of a room built of stone and mud between the church and the side of the convent and fruit garden."

 "A true and positive description of the mining camp Real of our Lady of Guadelupe of Tayopa, made in January 1646 by the Right Reverend Father Guardian Fray, Fransisco Villegas y Orosco, Royal Vicar-General of the Royal and Distinguished Jesuit Order of St. Ignacio of Tayopa, and Jesuit of the Great Faculty of Sonora and Biscalla, whom may God keep long years.

Ever since Fransisco Vasquez de Coronado wrote the Spanish Viceroy Mendoza in 1538: "the natives of Topira (the name given to Tayopa in the early annals) wear gold and emeralds and other precious stones. ?They make general use of gold and silver with which they cover their houses. ?The leaders wear finely worked gold chains around their necks" ?treasure hunters have searched for the metals of the Sun and the Moon deep within the innermost recesses of the Sierra Madres of Northern Mexico. ?For nearly three hundred and fifty years its location, and that of the treasure vault have remained unknown.

 ?Expeditions into the"Mother Mountains" (74k) ?have to contend with desert, jungle, and mountainous terrain: temperatures which range from 100 degrees F during the day, to 10 below zero C at night; black panthers and jaguars prowling around the camp; scorpions, tarantulas, rattlesnakes, and coral snakes; and the most dangerous of them all, narcotraficantes... drug runners. ?All in all, the ideal locale for a buried treasure. ?But what is the background storty to this remarkable quest?

 ?The legendary Lost Mines of Tayopa are probably familiar to all treasure hunters who've read J. Frank Dodie's Apache Gold and Yaqui Silver. ?The book is a treasure chest of folklore and traditions, from the American Southwest and Mexico, pertaining to buried treasures and lost gold mines.

 Many of the mythical gold mines were relocated by American and British mining companies, in the heady years between 1890 and 1910. ?Their success was eventually curtailed by Panch Villa and the Mexican Revolution.

 Tayopa however, refused to be drawn into the light of mortal man's gaze, and remains hidden to this day. ?The treasure was amassed between the years 1632 and 1646 by the Jesuit padres operating the mining Real and mission of Tayopa. ?Two sister settlements, Guaynopa and Guaynopita, were in close proximity. ?All three were razed to the ground by Pima and Opata indians during the spring of 1646 as part of a general uprising which engulfed much of northern New Spain.

 The reason why so much gold and silver bullion was present at the missions was because the Jesuits were in league with Spain's arch enemies, the Dutch, to take over large areas of the Spanish Empire in the East Indies, Central and South America. ?The plot failed and the Jesuits were eventually expelled from all Spanish dominions in 1767.

 Tayopa was located in a very inhospitable and isolated area of New Spain and had very little contact with the outside world for much of the year; only four people were encountered during the four months that were spent on the trail! ?Neither Jesuit mysticism nor Spanish bayonets could penetrate the veil of silence which was drawn over Tayopa's location and it has remained lost for three and a half centuries.

 Such is not the case with the other two missions.

 ?According to Adrian Westwood, "we have relocated the missions of Guaynopa (99k)and Guaynopita, the Indian cliff ruins ?(88k) where the survivors of the initial Indian attack made their last stand, and numerous other blockhouses protecting the canyon approaches and dam walls. ?Several arrasytres, or Spanish ore crushers have also been found. ?Tayopa, the third point of the "Golden Rectange" is nearby.

 During the three previous expeditions I have been able to cover a vast area of the Guaynopa canyon and its environs, tracking down landmarks, and following up Indian legends and 19th century mining reports.

 When not in the field, we have continued the research through libraries, archives, and museums in Spain, Mexico, and the U.S.A. ?Many leads have been blind alleys, but every so often, a valuable clue has dropped into place. ?One such clue turned up in October of 1994, and I believe it will lead me straight to the treasure vault when the expedition sets out in April of 1995... if my interpretation is correct.

 Many have searched for Tayopa, many have died for it, and all believed that they knew where it was. ?Such is the lure of treasure hunting.

 Parts reprinted from "Jesuit Gold A Treasure Hunters Guide to Tayopa" ?by Adrian Westwood.

Hola:   Adrian and I were in contact for a while, he graciously sent me a copy of his book   What he, and others do not know, is that there were three Tayopas.   His Tayopa is near
Guaynopa/Guaynopita, this is # 1.

 Later they transferred their operations to near Yecora.  They took the name Tayopa with them and callied this new site (#2) Tayopa .   They then renamed  Tayopa #1  La Divina Trinidad.

 They  found another area even richer, so again transferred their operations to the new site calling it Tayopa.   This is #3, the Tayopa that all of the treasures stories etc. are associated with.   they then called #2 la Trinidad -   I never found out what they eventually called #1

 I now own this Tayopa (#3), the results of some  40 years of research  and many field expeditions.

I have been commissioned to write two books on the Jesuit operations, explorations, slavery, mining,  murder, and the international plot to take over the Americas from Spain.   As Adrian says, this is why they were expelled in 1767.  I am just awaiting formal confermation from Rome to finnish.

No. for many reasons I haven't opened any of the mines nor recovered any of the treasures yet. among which are legal  and security ones,  but since I hold legal title to some 3500 acres until 2052, I am not in a hurry, I have waited this long, I can wait a bit more  heehe.
Any questions?

p.s. It is just inside of the Chihuahua state line, some 6000 meters.

I recently acquired some very old Gold Magazines the ones Trues west used to put out yearly. There is a great story written by Milton F. Rose. He found the Tayopa at one time. Removed a bunch of stuff including the documents found in the alter. He offered to spilt it with he Church but the good father said they had no need to split a treasure that already belonged to the order. They would find it in time.  The same man went one to remove part of the Tucmitori (forgive the spelling) treasure.
   It's a good read.  Bill I will give you a copy when I see you next week.

How come   Huh  no one has come up with the correct spelling of this MINE?  Roll Eyes
As you know!!!
Tayopa, Tayopah, or ...
Isn't it!
Heck!   Wink
If you want to know where it is...   Roll Eyes
No! Big Deal!
Don Fingato took photos of the Mine, that he located, in No. Mexico, ('bout 90 miles south of the Border. In a North/south running valley) from a map, that he located in Seville..
By using the CORRECT SPELLING!
Just because "Dobie" couldn't spell,   Cool  why continue to use his incorrect spelling?   Undecided

Sheehs Bill, aren't we being a bit presumptious?? So Fingado has a map from Seville to a mine with a similar spelling to Tayopa in the Guaynopa area,? does that? mean that this is "The" Tayopa and this is the way that it is spelled??? no way.? ?A casual check of the area shows several similar spellings for different mines, prob. all have maps in Seville as required by law.? So? what is the correct spelling of the original?? I will stick to "TAYOPA" since I have found it using "TAYOPA"? data.? ( 1248 acres in the titles, I reduced from the origional 3000+ amt.)

Titles # 200480 & # 207461.

 Out of curiosity, why didn't he return to the area  before he died?? ? Why doesn't Henry, his brother, take up the quest?

Incidentally the map in Dobies book "Apache Gold and Yaqui Silver" is almost 100% correct, but I cannot say the same for most of the story. If you wish, I will post photos for proof.

As for Milton Rose, he was his own worst enemy, seems that he always destroyed every bit of data or evidence that might have helped him to return or to prove any of his stories?? His story of leaving a room full of silver bars as not worth salvaging is rediculous.? In those days a large silver bar (45 kilos) represented over a years salary for the average man.

I was in close contact with Father C. Polzer, Jesuit Historian? at the U of Az.? ? He stated that the? bars and basket that Milton supposedly brought from Tayopa were all forgieries, the basket work and design only dates from the begining of the 1900's.?

So we are back to square one? Bill heheh.

How did you come out with the Mission that you were going to excavate / explore and the tunnel? what was at the bottom of the filled in well?

K? gals/guys,there? are still? (2)? mines directly related to "the" TAYOPA in the Guaynopa/ Trinidad area to be found, complete with treasures. Fingado's map is prob. to one of them, so gogogogo.!!  AND LUCK!!!

I have found mine, now go get yours!

Fingado's Map had the Official Archive's Stamp and Seal on the back of the Map, that I saw!
His map was, A Copy, of the original, Fingado got from the Archives,  of course!
AND! Fingado himself told me..that anyone who can't spell the name correctly hasn't done his(the) research!
Why didn't he return?
As you might know, He was deeply involved in drug RUNNING!
AND! Being so!
He was wanted by the Mexican authorities!
ALSO!
He died last year !
AND!
You don't have to take my word about/for the correct spelling...
I can absolutely prove it !
Do you know, there an American General, who was chasing Poncho Villa, was told by his Mexican Guide that the General was camped, "Close enough to hear the Bells of T......!"
I can also,
Absolutely prove this!
Along with,
The General's Name, date and the location the General and his troops were camped!

Fingado's Map had the Official Archive's Stamp and Seal on the back of the Map, that I saw!

(A) I have no doubt that it is a genuine map,? but,? I do doubt that it is of THE Tayopa.? All mines were required to have accurate maps to them in the Indies, including the other versions of Tayopa -? Teopari, Topia, Soyopa, Teopa, Toapa, Topia,? and on for tax purposes.? You must remember? by 1767 they were operatng many mines in this district, from Guyanopa south almost to Alamos, and from East to West for some 50 miles.? Any one of them can  legitimately be called the mines of Tayopa.? This is one of the reasons for such confusion.

AND! Fingado himself told me..that anyone who can't spell the name correctly hasn't done his(the) research!

(A)? This actually? applies to Fingado himself, and to those who follow his words. HE hadn't done HIS research thoroughly. HE is relying upon a single document for the correct name, whereas I used multiple ones.

As you might know, He was deeply involved in drug RUNNING!
He was wanted by the Mexican authorities!

(A)? This is curious, since I was in the Border Patrol for a bit.? ?I know that? narcotic? runners? on one side of the Border are also wanted on the other??? ?They are violating? the law on both sides.Huh?

He died last year !

(A) Yes Henry told me this.

Do you know, there an American General, who was chasing Poncho Villa, was told by his Mexican Guide that the General was camped, "Close enough to hear the Bells of T......!"

(A)? By 1917 there was nothing left of the church of Tayopa, hence no bells were hung to ring. So the guide must have been referring to a village wth a similar name.? The Church was destroyed by the revolting Guayajiro Indians in 1630-40? (your choice of a date) so the Jesuits never found Tayopa when they returned.? They did work the surrounding area unitl 1767.

em me the results of your search on the mission.

P.S.  Hey Captbill. gals   guys, just because I am in disagreement with you on the spelling and location of TAYOPA doesn't mean that I think that you  are nuts heheh, on the contrary my friend I have great repect for you and your accumulated knowledge on treasures.  Someday we have to get together on a big one, OK?

Hola Marc:? The search for Tayopa was started by verifying the existence of the other 6 mines of the Golden Triangle.? I started with the Gloria Pan.? After proving it's existence, I next proved both the Tarasca & Las Pimas mines.? From there I went to the Lost placers of Teopca.? This naturally took some years, but were crucial to prove the possible existence of Tayopa.  Incidently I know very closely where each is.

 Interested?

A)  hehehe love ya  Bill.  My Tayopa fits "every one" of the stories, maps, and rumors,  on Tayopa, including the Capilla site being exactly as drawn in Dobies map, with the distances of the mines from the Capilla being correct.  The Remedios mine  is exactly where it should be and was once denounced but never worked because of the revolution.

You will see it with your own eyes one of these days Bill.   Fingado's Teopari does not fit any.

Does anyone know how to contact Adrian Westwood?  He was kind enough to send a lengthy reply to me several years ago regarding several Tayopa questions, and I'd like to catch up and learn about his more recent Tayopa searches and activities.

Hey Jose.  Received several pieces of information regarding Tayopa from you.  Thanks very much.  My understanding is that no one currently knows how to contact Adrian.  I tried to Google his name but the latest data is two years old and the e-mail address shown is no longer operative.  Did you get my e-mail message regarding the Guayajiro Indians and the value of Adrian's Jesuit Gold?

I also downloaded Google Earth but was unable to get a clear picture of possible site(s).  I guess I need the upgraded version or a better graphics card.

Thanks again for your help.  Any luck in deciphering the signs you showed in your earlier posting?  Did you find them near your Tayopa site?

I am after the processed metal, of course I would love artifacts.   As for the Tayopa mines, I already own them, all 18+ .

If mines were what I want, I already own  3, Au, Ag, Cu, that are very  accessable, they are up for sale..

The materiel posted at the start is only a small fraction of what is there.

I will not post any of the maps that I have on the deposits just yet, for obvious reasons, just list what is in one. Incidentally this particular document has never been seen by 'anyone' but my family since it was made..

1) 120 cargas de mula de barras de Oro-----------------120 mule loads of gold bars

I guess what I am searching for is this:
IF I lived in an area with such natural wealth, historical theatre, and available human resources...I think I would
organize the greatest treasure hunt in history backed by financiers, soldiers of fortune, dreamers infected with gold fever, scientists, and even politicos. I would sell stock and run the hunt like a Fortune 500 Co.
And the time will never be better than NOW.

Anybody here at TN in on this whale of an adventure?

A)sigh I am not a promoter, never have really tried to raise the right amount of capital for this project.shehs.

I worry too much about investors losing money because of something that I may have over looked.  sniff.

I do have a few irons heating up  right now, they just may pay off, but then this has happened before snifff.

To form a company or a co-op costs money.  I am still short from the last 4 years of all out, eliminating these cancers, and rebuilding myself.  Now declared to be completely clean of any sign of them.

As I mentioned,  I have 3 of my mines up for sale.  two  companies have indicated interest, but - "No-0ne has seen tomorrows sun".

Thanks  Cappy, I agree the potential is there,  but I apparently am not the guy to raise the capital.  I just don't know how to sell myself and the project. I have tried with different mining companies, but all are fully committed.,

It would need an American company or co-op with  a legal Mexican subsidiary.

HOLA:  This is a continuation of the post in "paranormal" in Dowsing.

As I mentioned,  when I had cured the old Indian couple, she told me the following story which I have verified enough to know that it is true and the location is correct. since they are now both dead from other causes, i am the only one that knows the precise details, so take care of me Sossi.

It seems that the black Robes (Jesuits)  had ordered her ancestor to construct a capilla (church) on their ranch. behind --------.  this was done,  They then ordered  them to dig a tunnel into a hill that was on the ranch, then cross cut it for a tunnel that ran lengthwise.  Later the Jesuits descended from the sierra (Tayopa) with two metal doors which they installed approx, 9 -10 ft inside of the tunnel on the slope. These were vertical hung halves.

The Black Robes periodically sent mule/burro trains of bars etc,  which were stored in the tunnels. The Priest that was in charge of the Capilla always kept records. When enough had accumulated it was sent East to --? (she did not know, but it was Matamorros).

"One day they came down very agitated  put many bars , church ornaments, documents, etc  into the tunnel, closed the doors and locked them with a padlock,  then caved in the side of the slope covering the door with perhaps 8 - 10 ft. of dirt.  They then gave my ancestor the job of guarding this until they  returned".

She then told me that it had been many generations that her family had been guarding this, but "Don Jose, I do not think that they are ever coming back so this is my gift to you for having having cured us".  "When you wish I will also take you there, all are are family members of mine. I will vouch for you and they will show you mines, treasures, etc, that they would never show anyone else."

But  other things took preference, and when I decided to go, it was too late, both had died, but word was sent to me that she had passed the word on and that I would be welcome.

This is a 3 - 4 day trip in by mule - 20 min by helicopter  sigh. -  plus whatever time it is necessary to locate the precise spot and open it up.  The logistics of transporting the metal was what actually stopped me then, I just didn't have the  financing, a chromic condition of treasure hunters.

Now, I don't know a thing about Tayopa,but
a short time back I was looking foir a missing
person in Mexico and discovered 5 huge
caches. I don't know if is mines or just huge
deposits. Later, I checked and Milton Rose
(whoever he is) had been to all 5 locations.
We are talking about hundreds of millions at
each location.

A)  Hmm  interesting. shall we tallk?

Most of the information that I have on Milton Rose is that He was primarily an author  rether than an actual treasure hunter.  I personally  would love to hear more, especially if it appears that I am doing him an injustice.

Milton died in the middle of the  1900's.

He supposedly found Tayopa - not true - and did find some Spanish mines in Az.  He authored various books on lost treasures  etc..

Hola Albert:  The map is orientated to the south, all pictures also. Notice the referrece to a Cato, this is the large room next to the Alter to the left looking towards the entrance, South

There was no church big enough for 2 large Oaks to grow in, plus the Indians told me that their ancestors had torn the church down and thrown the building stones into the barranca below in approx. 1630 during the big uprising..

This type and size church structure was a basic approved design.

The location is precisely the type used in the Rhine river fortifications and nortern Italyi in that period. Ths was for protection from the Indians etc.  Tayopa could easily be defended against any number of Indians by a handfull of spanish soldiers.

In times of peace the Padres lived in a beaufitul little valley about a hour to the north.

I will not post any of the maps that I have on the deposits just yet, for obvious reasons, just list what is in one. Incidentally this particular document has never been seen by 'anyone' but my family since it was made..

******************
A)  Clarification,   this map was origonally found by my friends father.  An old Indian that worked with him told him that according his family, there ws a chest bured in the corner of a Church/Mission/Capilla.  He investigated and foud the chest in a deserted ruin.   Inside of the chest, with many other papers,  was the map.  He never could decypher it nor his son, so they gave me  a stylized copy of the map, the origonal was now in pieces.  What I was referring to is that no-one has seen my map and his is now competely gone.

HI:This is to show that the church/capilla is exactly as drawn on Dobies's map, hence two huge oaks could not be grown inside of it.

HOLA:

The Jesuits liked to play their little games.  On one of the deposit maps, this was on top along with other writings, and it hadn't been deciphered,  Actually it is a simple  coding, they used a mirror upside down image.  It is the initials of the three Jesuit Priests that made up the document.

On the document on the distances to the mines from the door of the church, it is impossible as listed.  There is no way that you can have that many mines that close to the church, but, if you divide the varas by 2 then multiply the result by 10 it is correct.

Varas were approx. 1 meter.  At that time they were still using codos, a codo is approx.1/2 of a vara.

This is what makes looking for lost caches and  mines fun.

I also downloaded Google Earth but was unable to get a clear picture of possible site(s).  I guess I need the upgraded version or a better graphics card.

HOLA Bandit: In reviewing to be sure that I haven't "let the cat out of the bag", I don't  believe that I answered you on the location in Google Earth.

Try 28* 00' 26"N   108* 56' 57"W, this is the location of the monument.  Rotate the picture on your screen 180 degrees so that the vallys appear as valleys. In the middle you will see Tayopa, exactly as it appears on dobie's map.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Any luck in deciphering the signs you showed in your earlier posting?  Did you find them near your Tayopa site?
*******************
A) Yes I have them almost decipered, it lies on the ascending entry path to Tayopa, just ouside of my tittle's  area.
I know there's Treasure somewhere...
« Reply #40 on: March 27, 2006, 06:58:36 pm »
No one is really searching the lands where Treasures of Legend are rumored. There truly no expedition today at this hour aggressively scouring plateau and valley for clues.  Thousands of arm chair treasure hunters love to discuss the probabilities of Tayopa. Warriors that once slayed windmills and dragons humbly offer their expertise. But I The Sorcerer declare that a Great Treasure associated with, but not the mother lode, is waiting within short reach to be found. I have dreamt of Indian children playing in a cool brook that has 'pools'/holes beneath the surface. Deep holes that may by now be filled with sediment. The Jesuits had some need to quickly hide their valuables..and the children hid them here where the water is fresh from an underground stream and the color of yellow was near and the laughter of Indian children was no surprise to the coming soldiers... I have seen it. It is real. And I will bide my time. I can only sense that if someone, anyone, assists the rural poor Indians..that the clear waters will come and well up and there will be the thunder of a train racing nearby...
..just a dream..
HOLA  SOSI:
Here are a couple of pictures of the exits of your arroyo Caudaloso. It runs all year around coming from one of the major faults of the Barranca Paramo.
As you can see, it can run heavy during the rains and it does have nice deep pools in the  Paramo, which is the gold carrying one.
I will also check it for re-enrichment of the arroyo.
This is the company Logo, shows the settng Sun on March 7th, as viewed from the Cerro Minaca.  excatly correct.
The motto is self explanitory and followed to the end.  It is on the front page of all files on Tayopa and the mining titles.
I have no idea who the author of the motto is, we have tried to find she/he. It is  not used with any comercial intent, just for our enjoyment and encouragement.
