As far as smearing goes, that was not my intention. It has become evident through this forum and others that the Excal has a tendacy to leak and literally break. I see more posts regarding Minelabs inability to handle the claims than I do pennies in my coinjar. I was just going with the numbers.

Kind of an oxymoron don't you think? I read that someone suspected that this was happening so they deliberately tested the concept by throwing a ring amongst some scrap iron.

I have read alot of great things about the Minelab. Depth, disc., and technology seem to be its strong points. Fishers strong point seems to be reliability. Since it is said that they are both good machines, My decision will be on what is more important, reliability or superior function? After sitting here for ten minutes in front of this post... I choose reliability. Case closed.
