Ocean & Freshwater Wading Advice

March 31, 2000 at 16:19:57

Finally, after all these years working, I got to retire. I spent the winter in Florida and md' mostly West Coast beaches with some East Coast one's thrown in. My wife and I were very successful with the coins on the dry and wet sand as we are at the beaches at daylight and put in long hours at it. I have been very successful with coins and rings in our freshwater lakes of Tennessee using a CZ7a Pro harness mounted on my chest. I used this approach on the West Coast Beaches and it worked fine in the salt water, however one bad slip or another porpoise zooming by me feeding in shallow water and I am liable to dip my 7a Pro in the drink. However my 24" scoop was a failure, need a much longer handle scoop and better built for prying. The limit of the 24" and the rising waves allowed me to only go into thigh to slightly deep water as bending over to scoop nearly dunks my splashproof unit.. I guess I am in the market for an underwater unit and a long handle, better built/stronger scoop. I am at that dilemma that many of you have met and hopefully solved...What underwater unit for wading, as I do not intend to go under the water,... and whick kind of underwater unit should I buy....a PI unit or a normal waterproof unit.

You comment/thoughts/expenience is appreciated....Frank Hamill
