John, the older Eagle Spectrum was one of my favorite metered machines. I sold mine due to back trouble - the extra weight of the Eagle was a bit much for me. I like the Eagle better than the XLT , but again that's a personal choice. You got some excellent responses- from some guys that are far more experienced than I am. The longer I've hunted , the more I've started to lean towards non-metered machines - the Shadow has become my primary detector , after using many makes and models. It's got great depth and excellent disc. Anyway , my favorite metered machine is the QXT(of all the newer models - I still have a sweet spot for the Eagle though). I've found it to be very accurate on deep targets , it can be swung much slower than the Eagle/XLT, and the Target Sizing Capabilities are really neat. Also , the Noise Reduction feature is really great - I can't stand alot of chattering/falsing , and although you'll lose a little depth with the Noise Reduction on, it'll still go deep. I wish White's would put numeric ID on the QXT vs the notching system though.

The "Flash Technology" of the ID/IDX meter is very accurate also , but as mentioned , it lacks depth readout and some other info that the other models have. But , it's quite a bit cheaper. I personally prefer the rod design of the QII/QXT,Pro Series and XLT over the rod design of the IDX. I just like the feel of the pistol grip design. They feel better balanced to me.The early Quantum series had a few software glitches that were corrected a few years ago. I think that turned a few folks off to those models.

Most of what I've mentioned,of course, is just my opinion. If you see me in the field these days , odds are I'll be swinging a Shadow with the S9 coil. I put my QXT up for sale on E-bay a few days ago , but am sure I'll replace it in the near future - when I get the itch to start using a metered machine again :-)
