Fisher CZ-7A blows for 3rd time!
January 20, 2000 at 14:45:41
One year ago I purchased a Fisher CZ-7A detector. Within three weeks the sensitivity adjustment ceased to funtion. The sens stayed at zero and could not be adjusted.
I drove to Los Banos and Fisher replaced a resistor while I waited. The detector functioned for about 4 more weeks and lost sensitivity adjustment again!
The third time I demanded the detector be replaced as I felt that other components were the problem. Fisher replaced the entire motherboard and the detector has worked properly since today.
Today, the same problem re-occured.
I do not abuse equipment. I have advanced electronic and computer training. The detector has never been dropped, kicked or in any way shape or form been abused. It has only seen light rain for very short periods of time.
I work part time and do a lot of detecting (approximately 20 hours per week). I do not feel this should be a factor. I feel that the detector should function reliably even if I used it eight hours per day, seven days a week.
I will not buy another Fisher product. Others who may have had more reliable service than I have received, can formulate their own opions. I bought a detector to use and not sit in the repair facility at Fisher.
The detector was purchased on 2-5-1999. To date the original cost has had an additional $75 (approx) dollars added to it's total due to shipping, insuring, and the gas money I spent driving to Los Banos the first time. In addition, the detector has been out of my hands for approximately one month due to repair time.
One more thing that agravates me is the fact that the last time I sent Fisher the detector to be repaired I sent it to them with 12 NEW AA batteries installed. Fisher returned it with the batteries nearly dead!! Pi**ed me off!
