Hi Robert, (good choice of name, there! :-)
I owned a Fisher 1265X for over 10 years and NEVER had a probolem with it, and I hunted as much or more than you. In fact, at one point, my machine was literally held together with duct tape and rubber bands! I kid you not! It was, sadly, removed fom my posession by someone who obviously needed it more than me, but now I own a 1266X, and I'm really starting to get the hang of it.
My point in all of this is that at least I KNOW that the 1266 is a reliable machine, and all dealings Ive ever had with the folks at Fisher have been pleasant.
Sucks about the batteries, though. Oh well - next time send it to em with NO batteries!
