To me, any coin or jewelry that I find first by eye-balling rather than detecting is a "no count". I have made one exception. That is, one day on the beach I eye-balled what appeared to be a small piece of dried kelp sticking out of the sand. I got a signal when the coil passed over it and dug a watch with a brown leather strap. I would have passed it up as trash if I relied on eye-balling.....so it counts!

I don't search thru handfuls of dirt for coins as I now use a Vibra Probe purchased at a good price from Al's Discount Detectors. The beauty of this prob is that it is uni-directional and points right to the coin! [OK, pulltabs too] Sure wish it would work up to another inch or so.
