Has any ever help to recover items lost in a disaster?

With the ground frozen solid here in Staten Island for the past week and a half, this might be time for a nice fireplace chat. Has anyone ever assisted in finding lost rings, coins, family heirlooms,etc... lost in a flood, tornado, or some other natural disaster?
Happy Huntin' and cant wait for the thaw....
