RL,

Hot Rocks come in all shapes, sizes and types. They are highly mineralized rocks that fool a detector into thinking it has picked up on metal. Personally I've never seen one in quartz but am certain that they exist, the ones I come across in my area are somewhat like a grey granite type but have found them with quartz veins running through them. I just don't think that there is any way of telling with visual inspection or rock type. Even tree roots can suck the minerals out of the ground and set a detector off as well so......

My personal choice as far as which detector to get is the 6000 DI/PRO SL by Whites or the newest and lightest version, the 6000 PRO XL. I can not bring myself to justify the price of the GTI 2500 and it will not do anything that I can't do with the 6000. It's all academic anyway because the one you get....has to fit YOU. I have great respect for the Fisher units as well but again feel that they are a bit overpriced(still may get one myself though). Tesoro, what can I say....excellent detectors for sure. I don't think you can really go wrong providing that you stick with well known brand names. The majority of medium to top end models will find you the goodies, it's a matter of what fits your style best. Good luck and HH!!
