Roots! Roots! Roots! in Michigan
August 30, 2000 at 11:31:56

Folks, any advice for working in rooty ground? I'm working some parks here near Traverse City, Mich. that have lots of old maple trees. Anywhere I stick my digger in there are roots galore--both big and small. It's really hard to dig targets without making a big ragged hole. Probes are almost useless here, and I've tried just being as neat as possible, but I don't want to make a mess. As is I'm only digging absolutely good signals. I did manage to resurrect an 1880 Indian Head cent this a.m. but it had a hole drilled through it, probably for a necklace, I'm guessing. Any hints about the root problem? BTW, any other THers in the T.C. area?
