My Last request to hunt turndown! (long)
August 31, 2000 at 16:04:54

What's more discouraging? Going to a public site and finding fifty cents for an hour's detecting or researching sites for days in the library and tax offices and getting turned down cold for all of your research? After close to two years of trying to hunt in a reasonable 50 mile radius of Fayetteville, NC with permission I have come to several conclusions. 1.These people in NC are very suspicious and greedy.(They want all of your finds in exchange for permission to hunt) 2. The ONLY way for me to be able to hunt these areas that I have researched is to Lighten my skin tone by many shades.( A voice over the phone is great until I show up!) 3. I am on the verge of NOT asking permission. (It's better to beg forgiveness than ask for permission syndrome). Or I can give up this terriffic hobby or move to another location where the minds aren't as closed as they are here. Doesn't it seem odd that you don't hear much about finds in NC? Check the posts and magazines, you'll see. And the last thing.(I swear) Getting hunting info from other detectorists here in NC is difficult. Most everyone here seems to keep any info to themselves. YES IT IS TRUE. So don't try it. Just check the posts in the forums for answers to questions. They're not very forthcoming. So I guess I'll catch a lot of flames for my observations but from my standpoint, that's what I see and encounter on a daily basis. Exclusively hunting parks and schools is getting boring.

Still deciding what to do. Frank
