Possible site in Texas
September 06, 2000 at 03:18:48

I see a lot of Texans posting here, and being a former Texas resident, I still take an interest in things Texan, so this recent article in the online Houston Chronicle caught my eye:

<<The thriving port of Indianola, between Galveston and Corpus Christi was devastated by a hurricane on Sept. 16, 1875. Of the more than 2,000 residents, at least 270 died, and three-quarters of the town was carried away in the 10-foot storm surge. On Aug 20, 1886, the low-lying port was hit by another hurricane. Survivors abandoned the rubble, and the town was never rebuilt. Today the site of the once great port is marked by a park and a cemetery, and a statue of French explorer Cavelier de La Salle. >>

Although the "park" part is bad news, sounds like there could be plenty of opportunity for detecting here, both inland and along the beach. The site of Indianola is on Matagorda bay, not far from Victoria.
