The specific detector you select will be determined by a variety of factors, so I suggest you discuss the specifics with Al at Al's Discount Detectors .......which just happens to be in Ga. Al is a forum sponsor and you can get his address by clicking on "Select a destination" at the top of this page.

I would highly recommend a meter to a beginner as they greatly shorten the learning curve as you learn to use the more definitive audio. This will give you more time to study other aspects of detecting.

I use a Fisher CZ 7A Pro as I need the deep-seeking capability, the ability to effectively detect on wet salt beaches, it's splash/rain proofing and optional hip/chest mounting feature when wading or using a heavier coil. At this time of year I concentrate on the park/schools environment where it works like a charm. The Fisher CZ series are user-friendly detectors that are easy to learn and use.

The choice of analog or digital readout is a personal one. I prefer the digital readout of the CZ7A Pro while others prefer the analog (meter) readout of the otherwise similar CZ 5.

Although most, but not all detectors are well made, it can cost a bundle to ship and repair should the need arise. Fishers are well made and they provide a lifetime warranty.......now that's confidence in a product!

You can trust in Al to steer you straight in buying a detector as he is extremely knowledgeable, easy to talk to and HONEST...........he will not mislead you for the sake of selling a detector and has been known to suggest a brand he dosen't carry. He also has good prices.

You post really didn't present enough data on which to base a serious recommendation and there is no such thing as a "best" detector overall.......only a best detector for you in your environment and circumstances. However, you did mention hunting in sand and should note that coins, jewelry, etc. tend to sink deep and rapidly in sand and a deep-seeker such as a CZ should be considered. If that is going to be wet ocean beach sand then a CZ with it's SALT mode jumps to the top of the list.
