Tag Identification

Found a tag today that is probably made of aluminum (looks to be about the size of a military dogtag only much heavier). On the face side in small letters are the words "ASSEMBLED FOR" and in large letters is "ROUTE 66". Under that is inscribed (small letters) "Company NO. #66-RCD, and under that is "SERIAL NO. #RT-66-48084". The tag has a hole in it on one side, again, much like a dogtag. All I can think of is that it is some kind of tag used by the postal service. Any ideas? Thanks.
