HELP!!!!

I am interested in starting a hobby and thought metal detecting looked interesting. In the past I have seen several people using metal detectors on beaches and in recreation areas and thought I might try it. I would like some advise on purchasing a good metal detector. I don’t want to spend more than is necessary BUT I don’t want junk. I live in S.E. Michigan so it should be a source close to that area. Also if any one can make some suggestions as to where to start searching, it would be greatly appreciated.
