nice silver find
June 23, 2001 at 20:39:15

Had to share this with some one who might appreciate it. After a prolonged hunting layoff of many years, started searching again this spring. Went to a few of my old haunts and a few places I've never searched before, but could only find newer stuff. Well earlier tonight I went to an old park area and started to search across the street where there was a narrow patch of grass from the curb to a steep drop off leading to a deep ravine. The patch varied in width from about 5 feet to maybe 15 feet and meanders along about a mile or 2 of a parkway drive. Only had time to search about a city blocks worth but found in one hole a 1942 Half with a 1946-D quarter, several wheaties, and a few new quarters and dimes & cents. When I hit the silver hole It read out as a quarter about 4 inches deep, I had a good feeling right away from the depth; dug a plug and sure enough saw the shiny glint of silver, picked the 46 quarter out and replaced the plug; just to make sure while still on my knees, I moved the coil back over the plug again, and was quite surprised that it sounded off as another quarter; so pulled the plug out and loosed up the dirt some more, and out popped the Half, my eyes couldn't believe it! Moral of that story, always recheck the hole after you recover any thing! It just seems that you have to pay some sort of cosmic dues (by not finding silver) before all of a sudden it starts showing up again. It also seems harder and harder to find silver producing areas in the city, at least here in the Milwaukee area. Many hunters over the years have hit most regular areas hard, but tonight tells me they didn't get it all. Well good luck to all. Mike M ps, I use a Garrett GTA1200 or something like that
