HI:

I use an XLT. The display shows a signagraph which details the content of what you find. Read the manual to see how it works. The bars show what type of metal you have and are a clear indication of whats down there. A penny looks different from a nickle from a quarter from a pop top and so on. Iron on the left, precious metals on the right.

READ THE MANUAL.

Once you find a target swing the coil just over the target not much more. Pick up any metal trash you see on the surface. Pinpoint the target and then swing the coil only over the target. Dig up any really big targets.

Pay attention to the signagraph and READ THE MANUAL.

Don't dig the junk unless you want to, Use a factory program till you are happy with the XLT.
