"Grants" So many so called archeologist's depend on grant monies to survive. Its also true so many things are boxed away in basements of universities after countless hours of time and money was spent to excavate them at OUR the taxpayers expense. Its unfortunate that we in our lifetimes will never get to see even a small fraction of history which has been excavated over the years. Only huge finds which the press had the fortune of invading during or after finds have been brought to the publics eye. I have been metal detecting for almost 30 yrs and have found countless items at MY expense and time.. Nobody gave me any grants or special privilages nor did anybody ever stop buildings from being built or highways from being completed just so I could find that one indian head penny, mercury dime, or old broken pot. However I am smart enough to know if a find is significant enough to call in the "experts" so to speak. I agree that past history should be searched and preserved but not at the expense of everybody else's hobby or past time. Also it should be shared with all, not boxed away in a basement or storage area where it can't be seen by the very people whose ancestors created it. One thing is certain, it will be a cold day in hell before someone says I can't continue to metal detect. I hope if they try, they are prepared for a big fight.. Andy
