I really appreciate all your help. Chet is right, I do lack experience and I initially purchased the machine to find trash but now I want to use it for coins. The reason is twofold.. 1. because I know it's there and I am hunting virgin plantation country. 2. SNAKES! after almost getting bit in the face by a cotton mouth I want to hunt cleaner ground like fields in the warmer months. Most relics, coins, trash etc. are 6 - 8 inches in depth around here depending on silt deposits.. most only sink to the hard pan or "gumbo" mud which is like hard clay when wet and like cement when dry. I have thrown myself into learning this detector and I would rather take on a grizzly bear with a plastic butter knife than to say I can't do something.. and I refuse to let this or any detector get the best of me.

I do recheck my holes. The first thing that is beat in your head in any metal detecting help book is practice, practice, practice and recheck your holes. I was curious about the nails because I knew they were driving me nuts but I never found in any book or web page anyone complaining about them. The XLT with its graph would be a great edge for me though wouldn't it? My detector only shows depth and a little arrow that points at Iron, nickel etc.

Oh and the depth on the IH, dime and a small glass dog was about 5 or 6 inches. It was probably a child's treasure that they had buried. I wasn't using the detector at that time. Thanks again, Jason
