Myself and my buddy an XLT Guru use #1....and it works for us....set it too high and everything sounds bad. I guess it would depend on your hearing, headphones, ground mineralization have to experiment and remember don't go high....We always were pleased and our digging of iron would be far and few between..one local park we hunt is loaded with rusty old beer bottle caps, that register in the high coins range on lots of machines using the XLT or DFX we know immediately by the stuttering it indeed is not a coin. Again experiment with what works for you...
