Hi Steve: It sounds like the CZ is new to you and you should re-read the manual. It should be properly ground-balanced and the sensitivity adjusted for stability......not higher. Those new to a CZ tend to try to max out by bobbing and too high a sensitivity. I suggest you balance by the pushbutton method and run SENS at 4-6. The loss of depth will be minimal as the CZ is designed as a deep-seeker which you can verify by raising the coil over a target from min sens to max. Also, be aware that SENS 10 is not twice that of 5 as it's non-linear.

Ruling out "hot rocks". another common fault is a "pendulum swing" caused by lifting the coil at the end of the swing, resulting in falsing. Rod length should be adjusted as explained in the manual and your swing adjusted close and parallel to the ground without lifting at the end of the swing.

Do as I said and your target and ID problems should disappear.
