Hi Steve: I would like to point out that the depth reading is measured from the coil to the target for COIN SIZE OBJECTS. Large targets will read shallower than they really are,while for example, a tiny rivet deeper.

One should ignore non-repeatable targets as suggested in the manual. One reason for this is detector recovery time. That is, for example, if you notch out iron you may get a signal on a fast forward sweep that will be absent on the return sweep due to notching recovery time.

Another criteria for correct ID of coins is that they be seperate and not piled atop one another as the sum conductivity will be outside the coin range.
