I feel they are an effective time saver in precise retraction of the target. Of the current crop, I prefer the Vibra Probe or the White's Bullseye. The Vibra Probe advantage is water proof, Quiet and pulse. Still, some prefer the sound and the Bullseye If your $$$Budget$$$ allows, the Periscope is really super as you insert a 14" stainless Steel Reinforced probe into the ground and as the probem approaches the target whether its deep or shallow, the pulse rate INCREASES.
