Even the top of the line Bounty Hunter Time Ranger did not have good depth in my soil. If you post a wanted ad, you might be able to get a White's Classic ID or even a Classic IDX for around $250. Both have visual ID & good depth (but no depth reading or tone ID). The White's IDX Pro is really a deep detector. You might be able to get a used one for around $300. You might be able to find one of the Fisher CZ models used for around $300. Good depth in most soil, 3 tones, visual ID that groups some coins together. But they sometimes give coin IDs on nails. Another possibility Minelab Musketeer. I had the original & it beeped on rusty bottlecaps but they might break up the tone with a fast sweep. Went really deep, though no visual ID or tone ID. Another possibility, some Tesoro detector like the Bandito II Micromax. No visual or tone ID & I haven't used that one. The others I've owned & you might find used in your price range. There are others worth considering but I usually don't comment on detectors I haven't used. HH, George (MN)
