Hello, welcome to the Twilight Zone... In my city, I've learned this way: As long as I ask for permission to detect in city parks, the answer is NO. However, there are not signs posted about this prohibition. I've searched many parks, and only in one of them, after 1 hour searching, I was told by the person in charge that metal detectors were not allowed since the 70's or 80's because many inconsiderate hunters used to dig holes everywhere, even inside the baseball diamond. Since them, I use discretion. I detect early in the morning. I don't carry large digging instruments, only a probe and a screwdriver. And, as long as I can, I use lite earphones. Large headphones are nice for the beach, but they are not very good if you want to be discret. I also avoid the playgrounds if there are little kids around; incredibly enough there are some parents that don't have idea of what are you doing, and they even could believe (actual experience!)that you are looking for bombs. Well, I don't know if the above ideas may work for you...but indeed they have worked for me, where I live. |
