Discovery 3000

Hi folks, been reading the forum and gotten lots of good info.
I'm not new to md'ing per se. I used to have a White's XLT Spectrum but when I got divorced the ex sold it for drugs. So, I am left with my Radio Shack Discovery 3000.
I realize this is not a great detector. But its all I have and all I can afford at the moment.
The XLT spoiled me. I'd turn it on, go through the diagnostics and boom off and hunting.
Can someone please explain to me in plain english how to use the notch and discrimination features on this Discovery 3000. I mostly hunt playgrounds etc so if someone could explain how to use these features I MIGHT be able to find some clad :)
