Research into the pointless
March 30, 2004 at 13:22:11

After pouring over page after page of documents about legality's of metal detecting I am feeling my purchase of a metal detector was rather pointless with the exception of perhaps the planted field hunts that some groups have around. You cant use them on federal lands. You cant use them on state lands and I am learning that you will likely have a very difficult time obtaining permission from land owners to detect on their land. So here is my question. What's the point of having one if you cant use it. You read all these wonderful coin and relic finds that I am suspecting were probably illegally obtained in the first place. I have no way of substantiating that but it is very discouraging to a newbee to know he probably cant use his detector in 99% of the places that he would want to. Does anyone out there have a list of places that they are allowed to be used in the Denver metro area and surrounding areas?
Thanks
Greg
