Roy,

There is a gold belt that runs from N. Alabama to Maryland, so your chances are pretty good there will be placers in the Richmond area.

There is placer gold in the DC area. Several runs feeding into the Potomac are gold bearing. I have found decent color in Pimmit and Donaldson Runs, and I have read news articles of 1 oz nuggets being found in the Arlington area (small run).

At least you have gold within a three hour driving radius of Williamsburg. I have to drive to N. Georgia, N. & S. Carolina (10 hours).

Try Ask Jeeves (http://www.askjeeves.com), it uses several several search engines at once, and I can usually find the answers to research questions there. Give it a try, you have nothing to lose.

David
