G'day Al
Thanks for the feedback. I've got to admit that at this stage the only knowledge I have of the Tesoro Lobo Super Traq is what I've seen written in some of the posts in this and some other web Forums. Even then, because I wasn't aware it may have been suitable for here I didn't pay that much attention, except that I noticed it seems to be pretty highly regarded in the States. Reckon I might go back and have a closer look at some of those posts now after what you said.
No-one I personally know has owns a Tesoro Lobo Super Traq (jeez that's a mouthful - could we shorten it into an acronym like TLST or something?) in this neck of the woods but you've got my curiosity up now and I reckon I'll keep an ear and eye open in case I ever come across anyone who owns one and try to get an idea of how it performs in local soil conditions.
Actually, talking about ground noise, the SD 2000 was a lot quieter than the 2100 is on the salt lakes. My 2000 was stolen less than a year after I got it and I used old detectors while saving up for a replacement. When I had enough saved, the 2100 had been released and though I knew it was noisier than the 2000, bought it on the basis of hoped-for extra depth, as well as the option for future upgrades, which the 2000 didn't have.
But the 2100 really screams on the worst parts of salt lakes. You can still hear the signals through the cacophony of ground noise if you can stay sane for long enough, but it's like trying to appreciate Segovia on your stereo while the neighbours are playing techno music at what seems like about 200 decibels (that actually happened to me the other day but that's another story).
Al, was the SD2000 sold much in the States? Any idea how it would have compared to the Tesoro Lobo Super Traq on that noisy ground you mentioned in Nevada? That would give me a better idea on the Tesoro's potential application on the salt lakes. Do you lose much depth or sensitivity on the Tesoro with the alkali switch turned on?
Thanks again for the info Al and I'll try to borrow the Tesoro and give it a go if I'm ever lucky enough to come across one.
Regards, Steve
