Robert,

We bought an old Holden wagon, and a vintage Landcruiser ('71) that we keep near Cue, WA. You can't beat the Toyota, it just keeps on going and going. It's much cheaper to buy a cheap "wreck" to drive in Oz, then sell it before you leave. SUV rentals will eat you alive in Oz!
