The SD 2100 essentially does not respond to mineralization or to mildly salty conditions.

Ralph,
Please note, mildly salty conditions. In severe salt conditions, it becomes too unstable to rely on. I copied the "subject text" from: minelab.com.au/
Like Ciint said in Magnum Force, "every mans gotta know his limitations." The SD2100's limitation is heavy salt/alkali.
Been there, done that. I could care less how well it works in Prescott Valley, Alpha Diggin's, or Randsburg. Double check the SD2100 where you prospect before you buy one, I can name several spots it chokes. Other than being useless in heavy salt conditions, like parts of Australia, California, Nevada, and Utah, with experience, it does a decent job.
There are some interesting posts at the online treasure hunter site re PI's, coils, etc. You might want to check them out. I'm no expert on electronics, but I do know what doesn't work well.
Caveat Emptor!
