G'day Steve,

You answered a question before I could ask it, I have not tried the 11" 2D, obviously it's too quiet, mine are mono's. When I checked the depths the other night, the results were skewed in favor of the 8X. I didn't realize how salty the dry sand was. The difference in coil size tipped the scale in favor of the 8X also. Now, I'm doing it too, trying to find excuses for the SD2100.

There are those in the states that would argue the SD2100 would scream on a 38 gram nugget a foot deep. Most of their experience comes from reading forums, or skewed field tests, subsidized by the manufacturer, and some are just regurgitated hearsay. When I read nothing but glowing results and praise, I become skeptical. I got an e-mail from a fellow that held himself out to be an expert, it was obvious he had never actually had one in his hands before.

There are those who argue about the SD2100 and salt concentrations, one post compared his experience in the general area (Lovelock), when confronted with fact, some people panic, and make ridiculous statements, without stopping to think. Ready, fire, aim! Perhaps some of the misleading information comes from dealers??? Do you think a Minelab dealer would stretch the truth to sell machines?? Only in Bullamanka, huh? Ha! I guess I might be a little antsy if I had obsolete machines in stock with a newer model on the way. Minelab openly admits the SD2100 has serious problem with alkali, and I respect that, the ads say "mildly salty," some people don't pay attention to what they read.

It would be our great pleasure to hook up in Cool or Kal and stretch a tale or two. We can put the machines to a real test, where it counts, it should prove interesting. I havn't been to Kal in a while, has anything changed? Is the mine still going strong? I met sheila shopping at Woolworths Supermarket (on Hannan St.) in Kal, she still thinks we talk funny. Bubba, from the South? Nahhhh! Perth isn't the only place with beauties, the birds in Oz seem more laid back than here in the states. Maureen is one of the neatest ladies I've ever met, and thanks to Ozemail, we stay in constant contact. She's the the main reason for the side trip to Cool, her mum lives just outside Cool, great family!

Maureen nicknamed me Viper after I happened upon a harmless looking grass snake in the spinifex. It was a "harmless" Taipan. Huge mistake! My antics to impress her could have been proved fatal, I give spinifex a wide berth on hot days! Since then, I avoid all "grass" snakes in Oz. I've seen several poisonous snakes, none of them looked dangerous, looks are deceiving!! We have three, you have over one hundred deadly venomous species. But we have Hillary, so I guess that makes us even! Ha!

Have a good week,

Viper
