Jport, the higher the KHz the smaller gold you will be able to find down to sub grain size. The higher Kkz have the ability to punch through and pick out the smallest particles of gold and still get the bigger nuggets. The whites are not as forgiving as the gold bugs as far as ground balancing, and the Gold bugs are much easier to use, and a whole lot quieter as far as back ground noise, and I think a much stronger and sharper signal. The Goldmaster II and V-sat are much better then the GM3 in my opinion. Can't tell you anything about the 17000 or 18000 mine lab except that I have found gold with the Gold bug 2 fallowing a 17000. I also own a SD2100 that was purchased from the gold I found with the less expensive machines. What ever machine you get, if you are beginner you should be looking for ease of operation and something you will feel comfortable with so it doesn't become a hat rack in your closet. what ever you get think Gold keep your coil close to the ground and go sloooooooooooow.
