Carter: I use a backpack to sample. Mine's an inch and a half and fits on a pack really nice. Got it from D-K Detector Sales in Portland, Or. It's got a little 2-cycle Homelite motor and pump and miners moss equipped sluice with a little grizzly and riffles. I agree that if you're going to work an area, you need a 3 or 4 at least, but for prospecting and to make quick work of sampling, the little dredge is great. We use it a lot, because we have a lot of rugged country to cover. It's light, portable, and less trouble to pack than a sluice box, shovel and pan. It's certainly not a production machine, but well worth it's cost as a prospecting tool.
