Carter, Just a note from a guy that has been dredging some 20 years now. I know that a back pack dredge in the 1 1/2" to 2 1/2" range is very light, but the truth is that there are more effecient tools that are just as portable that will move more material. Personally, I can pack my 5" dredge in 2 miles with no problem. I have built carts and stuff, but if it is a size issue, you would be better off with a sluice box and a Vac Pac Dry Vac system, digging tools, and pans. I can move about 3 times the dirt with a 5 gallon bucket and a shovel as I can with a 1 1/2" dredge. If you want a portable dredge I would suggest a high banker with a dredge attacthment. I use a 3" highbanker/dredge combo and it takes me two trips and I have take this on a trail listed as 4.5 miles at the trail head sign. I assume you will be camping and staying at this remote site, so to be honest it took me 3 trips to get camping gear, 5 HP motor, High Banker and Hoses, and 2 gallons of gas. Hope this helps and good prospecting.
