Just a friendly stir with my comments in the above post Dave.

Seriously though, even for nuggetty gold it can be useful in certain situations, depending on the type of deposit and the nature of the host rock, which can influence the type of shed. Obviously not the type of deposit you have.

I know a guy who took over a tenement after a mining company dropped it and he was able to get hold of soil sampling results from the company. The highest anomaly was 2 ppm (parts per million). He didn't actually find anything at that spot but by systematically detecting the other (lower) anomalous areas he picked up over 40 oz in specimens and nuggets from three fairly small separate patches, mostly in hungry looking ground he wouldn't have normally tried.
