Sounds like a good start. I used to do a lot of follow up to prospector located mineral deposits when I was in the industry.
The first thing you need to do is to determine the size of the deposit. Map it. Gert in there and at least do a "mud map" put on all the topography, creeks, access etc. If you have any geological knowlege then map the rock types. This does not have to be all that scientific if the first instance, but it would help to know if the reef is in granite or slate, near the boundary etc. Take a number of samples over the outcrop and in to the country rosk and get them assayed. You may find it helpful to grid the are for your sampling.
Go to your local mines and lands department and research the land holding situation, local environmental laws (can you mine in the area) and any past geological exploration history in the area.
This will end up giving you a portfolio of information that you can show to an exploration company, sort of a like a resume for a job. What you want to do is get them interested. Why get a mining company involved? well they will have more resources than you to assess the reef. If its big, then you can negotiate a share. If its small and they walk away you are left with a lot of information possibly even drill information.
We looked at a lot of small deposits and walked away from most of them as being too small. The prospector ended up with a great deal of information that enabled him to mine on happily for many years.
Good luck
If you need some free geological assessment then send me some info, like maps etc and I will see what comes up.
