Sorry, I have no first hand WI gold knowledge. The USGS is a great resource, I was able to find several mineral maps in just a short research session. http://minerals.er.usgs.gov/pubs/of97-455/superior.htmlhttp://water.usgs.gov/public/pubs/FS/FS-048-96/ My personal opinion is that because of the glacial nature of the region the majority of gold if any would be found in hard rock mining. Placer would have most likely been dragged away by the ice. Good Luck, Hope you see coloure!
