I am a scuba diver. I need a waterproof watch while diving. Many watches are sold as "water resistant"--that means they are good for splashing and even a quick dunk, in and out rapidly, but no more than that, and there is no warranty protection, or liability, for them being waterproof. Waterproof watches are rated by atmospeheres, or in meters, or feet, as to their waterproof capabilities and their warranties reflect this. A metal detector manufacturer that says their coils are water resistant simply communicates about the same idea as a watch manufacturer--don't submerse the coil and work with it while it is submersed--there is no warranty coverage for that use. Minelab says their coils are water resistant--not waterproof. Other manufacturers make waterproof coils for their gold machines. If you're going to hunt with the coil and part of the stem covered in water, you'd best buy from a detector manufacturer that makes a waterproof one.
