Good to see some US country, Doc. Your dead right, Marc should be asked nicely to set up a photo posting system on this Prospecting forum.

Here in Oz there are many old claim survey posts - not cairns like yours - and if we can read the number on them we can then research the history of the claim. If we cant find the claim number due to the deterioration of the post all we have to do is get the GPS coords of it then punch those coords into the Mines Dept "Tengraph" system and presto we have a current map with that point in the centre. We can then view a historical version of that current map which will show us all the old surveyed lease numbers.

With a copy of that map we can then research all the recorded mining history and gold production of the area. I'm sure you do this type of research Doc, being the ex sleuth that you are, but I wonder how many other forum readers bother with proper research.

The area you photographed doesnt look very different from some gold areas here in Oz, except the basalt/andesite hills are much smaller here. Those cactus like plants, are they your trumpet plants ?.

Thanks Doc and keep smiling.

Chris Hake.
