There are three areas I can think of that meet the criteria in the story of:

a. Mineralized Area not near a populated area. b. High elevation and c. SEASONAL water, enough for a sluice box.

1. Eastern Bradshaw Mtns. 2. Four Peaks Wilderness Area 3. Chirachaua Mtns.

I'm sure Hoss and some other can come up with some more if they put their mind to it.
