Gold stealing never happens, Officer.

Hi folks,
I thought I might start a thread about a taboo subject, but it's not taboo if it all happened in the past.
Here in Westralia, gold was borrowed and not paid back regularly in the early days. One classic example that I can vouch for is the situation where the Government set up stamper batteries in various remote areas to crush ore for prospectors. Once these batteries got going, prospectors remained in the area instead of rushing about all over the state chasing rainbows and these formerly remote areas took on a hint of permanence.
Within about 5 miles of the State batteries, prospectors started opening up little "shows". Most of the little shows did actually produce some good rich ore, but there were a few which were duffers and the poor prospector had to find work locally. And where was he going to find work?. At the State battery of course !.
And would you believe it, his "duffer" show suddenly started producing some payable gold. Magic isn't it - duffer one day, payable the next, after he gets a job at the State battery where there are continuously operating battery boxes which need "checking" every hour or so and amalgam tables building up nice thick amalgam right before your eyes. And some of the ore going through was carrying up to 50 ounces per ton, sometimes even 1000 ounces / ton.
No Sir, gold stealing never happened. I'll bet other forum readers can come up with more stories about this thing that never happened.
Cheers
Chris Hake.
