every body knows greg,--or doc,, he's the one with the clever humor, enjoyable to read, you know the guy---well greg a couple of months ago would probably have been considered a newbie---not any more---i first met greg when he was using a minelab 18000. he wasn't doing all that great with it so i tried to point out some things to remember about using that machine. with a little guidance he found his first nugget, and then his second then came "south america" a nice 4 or 5 dwt beauty. well i think at that time greg figured he had it down pat---so be acquired a shinny new 2200d. i talked about greg going out with all the paraphernalia on his belt that you can possibly imagine. lets see i think there.was a pick, shovel, scoop, rock hammer, gold pan, cold chisel, socket wrench set, of course the steel hammer loop, you know --like the carpenters use? he also had on his prca rodeo belt buckel, the one that is 7 inches long and 4 inches high. he needed that buckle to fasten the 3 inch wide nylon web belt that was also used to tow the backhoe. well i tell i've never seen such a phantasmigoria in my whole life. why it looked like a christmas tree coming through the joshua trees and yucca plants. rattling and clanking like one of pattons tanks. well i have to give the devil his do,greg wasn't finding anything, so he sat down on a rock and thought about his sorry situation. i had warned him about having too much metal in the vicinity of the 2200d coil, that it would desensitize the coil. we would go to white hills and i would tell him that the gold was along the side of the ridge , by the time i got my detector ready, he would be two ridges away---whew--newbies---well one day about a two weeks ago we were out at white elphant wash, and about noon greg came up to me and said " hoss, i'm going to do all the digging for you for a while. at 67 yrs.,that was ok by me. well we went up on a ridge that in 1994 i had found two nice nuggets with the 17000. i pointed out to greg where i had found them and right away i got a 2 dwt nugget. well the score for the next 1 and1/2hours was 7 nuggets and 4 lead bullets. greg digging them all. pretty good deal huh? --that was the last time that i was down there until today. greg called me a couple of days ago and was all excited, he had found 2 nuggets --nice ones, and he told me that they were up the ridge a way from where i had found the 7 nuggets that he dug. i said well lets go down on sunday --maybe you found a new patch, well we did, and we worked the whole area, with out a target, except 2 --1---for each of us which i'm too embarassed to tell you about ---greg can probably do that better than i can anyway. we talked for a while and i said that i had had a feeling about the first patch that i ever found at white hills so we went over there and i explained the lay of the land to greg, where i had found the gold etc. we hadn't hunted for 10 minutes and greg came over to where i was with a big smile on his face--the bugger found a nugget---that was his third in 2 trips down-----congrats to greg i don't think he can be concidered a newbie any more. i guess he knows his machine. congrats again greg and as they say in australia --"good on ya mate"---i didn't find anything -----sob----skunked by greg---hoss
