PFUSA is a great organization and looks to be the only group open to everyone to protect our rights. I also live up here in Siskyou County (but moving to Wickenburg next month). I don't want to get off on a rant here, but when I moved up here 21 years ago, the cabin burnings were just getting underway. Today there are very few sites left, and you can't get to them anyway cause the Forest Service, often under pressure from the EcoFreaks, have many of the roads gated off. This used to be a wonderful place for people to roam the mountains and feel free. Now, I expect to find toll booths at anyplace a dirt road meets a paved one. And Siskyou is one of the most remote areas left in California, if not the whole US. Who's to blame? That's hard to say, except to mirror what others have said here, that the govt. whittles our rights a piece at a time, because good people think that if they win PART of a battle, they have a victory. NOT. In the early '80's I and some partners had a pretty good sized mine we opened in the Salmon River drainage. We took about 30 men off welfare and put them to work for more than a year. True, we fought some hard battles against the Forest Service, F&G, etc., but we prevailed because we could cite "Law" when the bureaucrats were trying to stop us with "Policy". Today, we could never have opened the mine, because now those policies are being pushed into Law and if good people who believe in the Rights and Freedoms we have enjoyed in this great country don't band together, don't declare, "Not One Damn Inch", we can kiss far more than our mining and prospecting jobs and hobbies goodby. There are EcoFreaks out there (actually up here) who have very personal agendas, not the least of which is Ego. There is one here in particular, a Mr. Felice Pace, who has singlehandedly done more to destroy the quality of life, including many livelyhoods, than many of the other organizations. Even his compatriots in his organization are overwhelmed by his tirads. The point of this is that the sources of the attacks on our freedoms are varied and sort of like when you're out wandering the hills and suddenly discovered you've walked smack onto a hill of snake dens. No matter which way you go, you're likely to get hit and it can come from any compass point at any moment. Somehow, we have to band together to hit all fronts because the EcoFreaks, like Felice Pace, have learned they can use lawyers to get around the law...that they can halt an operation even if it is complying with the laws, effectively injecting their will on the rights of others. True, we have to address the government agencies, but we need to go further. The Eco's have lawyers who believe as they do and give them the power to go forward against the laws and against the people. Maybe we need to find some legal eagles out there who can give us the same power to counteract the Pace's and his ilk. Maybe People for the USA can be that rally point. Not One Damn Inch. Betsy, whip us up a flag, girl, and, like Stan says, boys, Lock and Load. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.
