James, good point. Attack is always the best strategy. The only problem is this. NMFS, FS, BLM, all of them do not accept our say so that dredging improves the habitat. None of these orginizations has done an actual scientific study for themselves. We need to DEMAND they do! They have so called biologists that have not even seen a river, give opinions on dredging that carry more weight then our word. Why? They have a degree that says they are smarter then us and they make big bucks for stupid opinions that have gotten us here in the first place. We need to be keeping records of our actions. Pictures of fish feeding behind our dredges. The condition of the stream before and after dredging. A record of tempitures upstream from a dredge and downstream from the dredge. Junk removed from the streams. Copies must be kept at a central place to be used against these fools. When we go to these meetings, we will have bullets in our guns instead of blanks, we will blow trout unlimited or the friends of the river out of the meeting. We need documentation like the study on the Fortymile River in Alaska at every meeting. With no proof they say the salmon released from a fish hatchery will return to the hatchery. This is not so. I have seen these tagged fish in all kinds of creeks laying eggs. If need be we can volunteer to help with a study to see if this is true. We need to go on the attack and give them a good visual presentation. Our word is not good enough. If need be, get this material together and check it out from a central point, just like a library. Stress families working and playing together. Take it to each meeting and make a good visual presentation. That's how you sell a product and we need to sell ourselves. Set displays at fairs and flea markets in the cities to show what we are doing. Get the correct information out there or all the information they will have is from the enemy. Stan
