Greenie mentality??? long and possibly senseless post?

April 02, 1999 at 20:29:42

Hello all!

Did you ever stop and wonder why enviro-wacko's do the things that they do, why they think the way that they do? What would drive a person to want to completely destory someone elses way of life. What would make someone think that the only way to "save the environment" is by removeing people from it.

I have thought long and hard on this subject, and quite frankly, I am at a loss to explain it (your imput here is most welcome Doc). I just can't understand what kind of mental defect drives these people, or is just true ignorance of reality?

I do beleive however that if someone could figure it out, then we could change their mindset. I mean they must believe that they are doing the right thing, they surely think that they are benefiting the environment. What if it could be shown to them, that there are better ways to maintain nature, better for nature and people?

The idea of speaking at BLM, FS, etc meetings on the benefits of dredgeing to fish habitat is great, but why stop there? Why not go to some of the enviro meetings and show "them" the facts, surely some of them would have to rethink their viewpoints? If we can "teach" them the truth about how benien, and potentialy beneficial suction dredgeing is to a steam's ecosystem, then wouldn't at least some of them have to wake up?

The fact is that the Western United States didn't just appear in one instant and remain unchanged for all time! It, like all geologicaly active places on earth is a very dynamic place. There are landslides, floods, earthquakes, forest fires, volcanic eruptions, etc, ect! Every one of these things has a large impact on the environment, plants and animals of all kinds are constantly being killed off without us even lifting a finger! Yet every plant and animal species in these areas has evolved adaptations to this, and they actually thrive because of it!

If all the gold prospectors in the US lived to be a 1000 years old and prospected nonstop until then, they would still have less net affect on the environment than Mother Nature does in a single day! Why can't we figure out a way to make them understand that?

And what about the general public, can't we teach them a little something as well? All they have to go on is what the enviro-wackos tell them, most people don't have the time or desire to find out the facts. We should be actively educating people as to what we actually do, instead of allowing their only info source to be greenies!

Here is an example of just how ignorant the average person is about suction dredging: Last year I was cleaning up after running a four inch dredge in a large Indiana river. A man walked up and said to my freind on the bank "what is he doing?". My freind replied that I had been gold dredgeing and was now panning out the concentrates. the man said "doesn't he have any concern for the environment?" It just so happened that about 200 yards downstream from me out in the river, was a city constuction crew with a with a bulldozer and a backhoe, clearing off debri from recently haveing DYNAMITED an old bridge!! Yet all that man could see was that I was a gold miner, and thus I must somehow be an evil destroyer of the environment! Unfortunately I didn't get to talk to (read educate) that man before he walked off!

When most people here the word mineing, they think of dynamite, mercury, hydrolicking and other negative images. have you ever seen an episode of the cartoon "Captain Planet", what a load of shi_ that is!! Why can't we sue the producers of that garbage? It's no wonder people think the way that they do.

America is still ruled by the majority, it's just that right now the majority of people are greatly influenced by the green mindset! We need to change that, we need to show people that nugget shooting, suction dredgeing, even small scale hardrock mineing "is not detremental to the environment!" People want to do the right thing, they just need to be tought what "the right thing" is. I think we can do that, I think that we can change the mindset in this country!
