Several years back over near the Yuma proving grounds a fellow was fishing in the Colorado river, about 100 yards away from where his white pickup with a cover was parked, (not in the proving ground boundry), a jet flew over and ruined his pickup up with a surface to ground missle. He was pretty shaken up by it, and got a brand new rig and some healthy compensation to boot, but it is a good illustration of why you should get permission or at least notify the military of your position when in, or around their reservations, and also remember to dig softly if you do get the OK, as live rounds have been found too. I have a 20mm(75caliber) armor peircing projectile, I dug up in the little chuckwalla mountains that still has powder in it. It didn't explode for some reason, but was told by a friend to handle it with some care, until we can get the powder removed. Given the military's past history, I give them a wide birth, especially when they're actively flying around and over you, better to pack it up and live to hunt another time.
