I read all of your comments about visiting military reservations to find gold. I'm a US Marine stationed at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center and I was the Range Control Chief for over 3 years. Number 1, if a base, especially Army and Air Force bases, are open to the public, they normally just ask you to check in with the "game warden" or security personnel. He will know what areas are off limits. I hunt on Vandenberg AFB, with very little problems from the base. However, it is not open to civilians. I'm going to assume, here, that some bases will allow you to prospect on them. I'd check with the security personnel. Secondly, and this should be everyone's cardinal rule, handling unexploded munitions is extremely dangerous for anyone, even professionals. I personaly arranged 2 air Medical evacuations for Explosive Ordnance Disposal personnel on my base, one of them didn't make it!! I would stay off any base that conducts live fire exercises, including MCAGCC, 29 Palms, CA and the Yuma Proving Grounds, unless I was in contact with the Range Controllers. That's just me talking, for what it's worth, be safe and be smart! Good luck to all!!
