Most western states have done geologic surveys and histories by county. Local libraries in the areas where you're headed should have them in their "State" or "County" collections. Usually locked away behind glass on the back wall somewhere. Can't be checked out but can be read or copied on the premises. That's where I get the best info and locations on the old working mines and placers in this area. It's also where most authors get the info for their books.
