Good point Robert, and one other point for Whitey, perhaps the best mining library in the US is the McKay (sp?) School of Mines in Reno (pronounced "mack-ee"). It may be far out of your way, but it is a cornucopia of research on virtually every mining district in the country. They had far more info on Trinity Co. than the county itself had when I lived there. Plan on spending some time if you go there. Also, Arizona State has all the topo maps of the west in their Map Room. They also carry a lot of the old topos which show far more of the old mines and prospects on them than the new ones. You can photocopy to your hearts content at both spots.
